How Patent Prosecution Works

BY SEAN LYNCH · SEPTEMBER 19, 2022

Getting a patent is a process, not a single event. An application is prepared and filed, examined by the USPTO over an iterative back-and-forth, and — if that exchange succeeds — moves toward issuance. Continuation strategy and portfolio depth are decisions made along the way, not afterthoughts.

Lynch LLP handles each stage of that process for inventors and companies: preparing applications, responding through examination, and shaping a portfolio around what the business is actually trying to protect. How a given application moves depends on the technology and the examination record.
